Janet Taylor - Artist, Art Educator
Janet Taylor is a Chicago-based artist and art educator. Her most recent works explore the movement through personal and collective trauma by way of mark-making, deconstruction, and layers of reassembling.
Janet spent the first decade of her career as a scenic artist, painting and sculpting for theatre, film, and commercial industries in NYC and Chicago. Her years as a scenic artist have transferred into her artwork through the use of rich colors, large-scale painting techniques, and thrifty use of a variety of materials.
In 2010, Janet earned an M.Ed. in Secondary Education where she has continued her career as a nationally recognized art educator. Throughout her teaching career, Janet brought her wide range of skills into the classroom through drawing, photography, sculpture, metalsmithing, and more. As a multi-discipline artist, her interest in continually exploring a variety of materials, techniques, and processes is evident throughout her work as an artist today.
Currently, Janet balances her art-making practice with teaching art at the high school level as well as art educators through higher education. She resides in the western suburbs of Chicago with her husband and two children.
